Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective as of September 27, 2026.

This policy explains what personal data is processed when you visit versusverdict.com (“VersusVerdict”, “we”, “us”), why it is processed, who else receives it and what rights you have. It is written to meet the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and US state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA).

Who is responsible for your data

The controller responsible for processing personal data on this website is:

[Site owner name], [Street, City, Postcode, Country]. Email: [email protected]">[email protected]

For any privacy question or request, write to [email protected]">[email protected] or use our contact form.

What we collect and why

VersusVerdict is a reading site. You don’t need an account, and we don’t ask for your name or email unless you contact us. The table below summarizes the data processed, the purpose and the legal basis under the GDPR and UK GDPR.

Data Purpose Legal basis
Server log data (IP address, browser user agent, date and time, requested URL) Delivering pages, keeping the site secure, detecting and stopping abuse Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR)
Your consent choice Remembering whether you accepted or declined cookies and similar technologies Legal obligation to obtain and record consent (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) and legitimate interests
Cookies and similar identifiers used for personalized advertising and ad measurement Showing ads that fund the site and measuring their performance Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) where required by law; for limited or non-personalized ads, legitimate interests
Analytics data (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser information) Understanding which pages are useful and improving the site Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) where required by law
Contact form data (name, email address, subject, message) Answering your message and handling correction reports Legitimate interests in responding to you, or steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR)

We don’t sell your personal data for money. We don’t build profiles of you ourselves. Advertising partners may use data for personalized advertising as described below, which some US state laws treat as “selling” or “sharing”.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted by [Hosting provider, country]. Each time you load a page, your browser automatically sends technical information to the server. The server records it in log files:

  • your IP address,
  • your browser’s user agent (browser type, version and operating system),
  • the date and time of the request,
  • the URL you requested and the response status.

We use this information only to deliver the site, to keep it secure and stable, and to detect and stop attacks, abusive traffic and scraping that harms the service. Log files are deleted after 14 days unless a specific entry is needed longer to investigate a security incident. Our hosting provider processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement.

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and device identifiers. Strictly necessary storage (for example, remembering your privacy choice) doesn’t require consent. Advertising and analytics cookies require your consent where the law says so, including in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

Depending on how the site is currently configured, your consent is collected in one of two ways:

  • Google-certified consent management platform (CMP). Visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland see a consent message from a Google-certified CMP that uses the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF). It lists the vendors and purposes and lets you accept, reject or choose per purpose. Until you make a choice, advertising and analytics storage is set to “denied” for these regions.
  • The site’s own consent banner. A short banner lets you accept all, allow only necessary storage, or choose separately for analytics and personalized advertising. Advertising and analytics storage stay “denied” until you agree. Your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under the key consent_v1 for six months and is not sent to our server.

In both setups we use Google Consent Mode v2, which passes your choice to Google’s tags so that they respect it.

Ads are shown either way. If you don’t consent, you will still see ads, but they will be limited or non-personalized ads that are not based on your browsing history.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with the “Privacy settings” link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Google AdSense

We show ads through Google AdSense, a service of Google Ireland Limited (for the EEA, the UK and Switzerland) and Google LLC (elsewhere). Ads help pay for the site.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • Personalized ads use cookies or similar identifiers to tailor ads to your interests. They are only shown where you have consented or where consent is not required by law.
  • Non-personalized or limited ads are based on context, such as the page you are reading and your general location, rather than your history. They may still use cookies for frequency capping, fraud prevention and aggregated reporting where the law allows, or no cookies at all in limited ads mode.

For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, advertising vendors are managed through the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework. You can see and change which vendors may process your data in the consent message, available again through “Privacy settings”.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google in Google Ads Settings. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services on How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Google’s own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Google Analytics 4

If analytics is enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the site is used, for example which comparisons people read and how they find them. GA4 is provided by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC.

  • Where consent is required, analytics cookies are only set after you agree. Through Consent Mode, if you decline, Google tags either do not load or send only limited cookieless signals that do not identify you, depending on the configuration.
  • GA4 does not log or store full IP addresses. IP addresses are used only briefly to derive an approximate location and are then discarded.
  • Analytics data is used in aggregate. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.

You can opt out of Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or withdraw consent through “Privacy settings”.

Your rights under US state privacy laws

If you live in California or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to:

  • know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and to receive a copy of it,
  • delete personal information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions,
  • correct inaccurate personal information,
  • opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and of targeted advertising,
  • not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. You get the same site and the same content whatever you choose.

We don’t sell personal information for money. Allowing advertising partners to use cookies for personalized ads may count as “selling” or “sharing” under some state laws. To opt out, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in the footer, or “Privacy settings” where that link isn’t shown.

In the last 12 months, the categories of personal information processed through this site were identifiers (such as IP address and cookie identifiers), internet activity (such as pages viewed and interactions with ads), approximate geolocation derived from IP address, and, if you contacted us, the information you entered in the contact form. To make a request, write to [email protected]">[email protected]. We may need to verify your request, and you can use an authorized agent.

“Summarize with AI” buttons

Some pages have buttons that open ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini in a new tab with a ready-made prompt asking for a summary of the page. These are ordinary links to external websites.

  • Nothing is sent to these services unless you click a button.
  • The prompt contains the URL of the page you are on and a short request to summarize it. It contains no personal data from us.
  • For Gemini, the prompt may be copied to your clipboard so that you can paste it yourself.
  • Once you are on the external site, its own privacy policy and terms apply, and we have no control over how it processes your data.

Contact form

When you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, subject and message. We use them only to read and answer your message and, for correction reports, to check and fix the data. Submissions are stored on our server so that we can read them, and we may receive a notification in our own mailbox. To prevent spam and abuse, your IP address may be used briefly to limit how many messages can be sent in a short time.

We keep your message only as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up, then delete it. We never use your email address for newsletters or marketing, and we don’t share it with anyone.

Your rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you,
  • rectification of inaccurate data,
  • erasure of your data,
  • restriction of processing,
  • data portability,
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests,
  • withdraw consent at any time, with effect for the future, through “Privacy settings”,
  • lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work or where an alleged infringement took place.

To exercise these rights, write to [email protected]">[email protected]. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act on a request. Note that we can usually only link data to you if you contacted us, since we don’t run user accounts.

International data transfers

Google and some of its advertising partners may process data in the United States and other countries outside the EEA and the UK. Where this happens, transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) where the recipient is certified, or on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Our hosting provider, [Hosting provider, country], processes server data in the location stated there; if that is outside your country, equivalent safeguards apply.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data through the contact form, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. We restrict access to server logs and stored messages, keep software up to date, and limit the data we collect in the first place. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site, its services or the law change. The effective date at the top always shows the current version. Significant changes will be made clear on this page.
