Compact Luxury Car Comparisons

Compact luxury cars such as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Genesis G70, Acura Integra and Alfa Romeo Giulia are the traditional entry point to the premium sports sedan. They are roughly the size of a mainstream compact car, but they are engineered for stronger engines, more composed handling and more refined interiors.

Layout is the first thing that separates them. Many are built on rear-wheel-drive platforms, which brands favor for balanced handling and room for larger engines, with all-wheel drive offered for winter traction. Others, like the Integra, are based on front-wheel-drive architecture, which tends to free up interior space and keep prices lower. Check which drivetrains are available on the trim you want, since some engines come only with one layout.

Powertrains usually start with a turbocharged four-cylinder, and step-up versions add turbocharged six-cylinders or high-performance variants with very different price tags. Plug-in hybrid versions appear in some lineups, and electric sedans such as the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 compete for the same buyers. Compare horsepower and torque along with the EPA estimates, because performance-focused trims often require premium gas.

Space is where this class compromises. Rear legroom is tighter than in a midsize sedan, and trunk volume is modest. If you carry adults in the back often, compare those figures closely.

Also look at how the car is equipped. Sport suspensions, larger wheels and low-profile tires sharpen handling but can make the ride firmer on rough roads. Luxury brands usually offer longer basic warranties than mainstream ones, and option packages can raise the final price well above the starting MSRP, so compare trims with the equipment you want.
